Fertility Health

Whether you are actually planning for pregnancy, struggling to conceive (infertility) or are pregnant already. Vitality Dietitian can support you at every stage of your journey. We offer specialist fertility nutrition services to couples too.

Preconception health
For a woman food and nutrition in the days and weeks before embryo development undoubtedly, impacts the health of your new baby into its adult life. Improving your nutritional status in this time frame for a successful pregnancy and healthy child is imperative

For a man, nutrition affects sperm quality. This will affect how well sperm will swim and how readily they are able to fertilise with the egg. What a man eats today will impact his sperm quality and quantity in 90 day’s time.
So it is important for both men and women to eat a healthy diet for many months before trying for a baby.

Pregnancy Health
Simply maternal health impacts foetal programming. What this means is that what you eat as the pregnant mum on a day to day basis will affect your child’s health all the way into his or her adult life. It is therefore very important to acquire the knowledge on what you should and shouldn’t eat before, during, post pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. This will ensure you give your baby the best start in life and keep your own health in check too.

Infertility
Having trouble conceiving is a relatively common problem with couples. Factors that may influence fertility can be genetic, environmental and behavioural. There are numerous medical treatments that increase fertility and help conception but these can be invasive and expensive. In many cases simply improving your food and nutrition is an effective approach to increase fertility for women and men. Vitality Dietitian can help you optimise your health and nutrition to increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Heart Health

Cardiovascular disease refers to conditions that lead to narrowing or blocking of blood vessels that cause heart attacks, angina (chest pain) and or stroke. Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death and disability in England.  Diet and lifestyle can prevent and modify the overall outcome of CVD. South Asian people living in the UK including Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankans can have 50% higher risk to premature death from coronary heart disease and stroke. I am South Asian myself. This is relevant to our Leicester community which has a high ethnic distribution of South Asian population and our social diet culture is not cardio protective at most times. High blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, smoking, diabetes, excess weight are all risk factors that are interlinked. Your GP may suggest to start changing your diet and lifestyle before prescribing medication to help your symptoms- if you are on any medications you should inform us so we can help you accordingly. The dietary guidelines for improving these health parameters are very similar. Therefore at Vitality Dietitian we take a holistic approach and help you tweak your diet, exercise and lifestyle habits to optimise your heart health.
